Lady in Red is a lady fern grown as much for its stems as its fronds: the stipes come up deep wine red, and the finely cut foliage above them is pale enough that the color reads from across the bed. One to two feet each way.

Shade to part shade with steady moisture, since lady ferns resent drying out. It dies back completely for winter rather than holding its fronds like the evergreen ferns, so give it a neighbor that carries the spot through the cold. Cut the spent fronds down once they brown.
